Here is some weird Rummy news I uncovered today on www.thestar.com.my

A game of gin rummy may have cost the life of a man who jumped into a river to escape a police raid.

Fisherman Beh Swee Liang, 28, drowned shortly after leaping into Sungai Matang at Kampung Teluk Kertang in Kuala Sapetang near Taiping, about 70km from here.

His body was recovered at 9.15am yesterday, about 100m downriver from where he had jumped from a nearby jetty on Friday.

Taiping Deputy OCPD Supt Syed A. Wahab Syed A. Majid said police, acting on public complaints, raided the village where they found about 10 men at a gin rummy table near the jetty.

He said that when police moved in at 4.30pm, the men ran helter-skelter to escape.

“I was so surprised to hear that some of them jumped into the river, even though it was raining heavily and the water was fast-flowing at the time,” he said, adding that police managed to arrest four men, in their 20s.

Later after the policemen left, villagers contacted the Kuala Sapetang police station to inform them that one of the jumpers had failed to return home.

Police and Fire and Rescue Department personnel then mounted a search operation.
